Extend the Fun
Younger kids: Encourage your child to personalize their penguin; start by cutting out a strip of colorful felt to use as a scarf. Discuss with your child what they already know about birds. They fly, right? Explain how penguins are different because they are flightless and have flippers to help them swim.
Older kids: Head to the kitchen and whip up a cup of hot cocoa and cinnamon cream with your child. They can then use their new cozy to keep their beverage warm! Explain to your child that, just like humans, penguins are warm blooded and have adapted to stay warm in cool regions. The cup cozy keeps the hot cocoa warm, much like how penguins have blubber in a layer under their skin to keep them warm.
