Craft skills and math skills add up to some high-velocity fun when little hands make mini versions of Olympic bobsleds (the pros call them “bobs”). Race ’em down a cardboard track and time the results. Which sled is the fastest? Which sled is the flashiest? Try it and see!
What You'll Need
What to Do
-

Cut the cardboard tube open.
 -

Paint the cardboard tube.
 -

Tape the straws to the bottom of the bobsled. Have the short part of the straw bend, as shown.
 -

To make the track, fold the sides of the cardboard up, leaving at least a 3-inch-wide base.
 -

Paint the bobsled track. Let dry.
 -

Lean the top of the track against a chair or table.
 -

Then race your bobsled down the track. In a race, some bobsleds can go as fast as a car on the highway.
